GONZALO ESCOBAR

GONZALO ESCOBAR MORA este un artist care dorește să fie realizator de film si un realizator de film care vrea sa fie un artist. Originar din Columbia, a inceput sa studieze fotografia, filmul, instalatia de arta in sudul Floridei absolvind ulterior The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In prezent urmeaza cursurile unui program de masterat in Sarajevo sub indrumarea realizatorului de film Béla Tarr si a casei sale de productie. Lucrarile lui Gonzalo difera ca si continut de la video art la film documentar, fictiune si eseu cinematografic, imprumutand si estompand conventii, explorand locul de intersectie dintre personal si politic. A avut ocazia sa lucreze in proiecte pe intreg teritoriul Americii Latine, de la workshop-uri si documentare pe teren in Mexico, Ecuador si Columbia la proiecte audiovizuale personale in Peru si Bolivia. Ultima sa colaborare la filmul “tHERE" a fost rezultatul unei calatorii in Uruguay, Argentina si Chile.  Beneficiind de premiul Princess Grace Award, Gonzalo a avut oportunitatea sa isi dezvolte proiectul in tara sa natala unde a combinat mediile sale obisnuite de lucru cu interventiile stradale. Lucrarile sale au fost prezentate in festivaluri de film si arta video precum MOCA’s Optical Nerve in North Miami, Missouri’s TRUE/FALSE Film Festival, si festivaluri internationale de film ca CineSul in Brazil, si Against the Silence in Mexico.

GONZALO ESCOBAR MORA is an artist who wants to be filmmaker, and a filmmaker who wants to be an artist.  Originally from Colombia, he began to explore photography, film, video, and installation art in South Florida, and later obtained his bachelor’s degree at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  He is now pursuing a master’s program in the city of Sarajevo, under the mentorship of Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr and his film.factory project.  Gonzalo’s work ranges from video art, documentary filmmaking, and essay cinema, borrowing and blurring conventions, to explore where the personal and the political meet.   He has had the opportunity of working in projects throughout Latin America, from workshops and documentary fieldwork in Mexico, Ecuador, and Colombia, to personal audiovisual projects in Peru and Bolivia.  His latest collaboration film “tHERE" was a result from a trip to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile.  As a Princess Grace Award recipient, Gonzalo's thesis project took place in his native country, where he combined media making along with street interventions.  His work has been shown in film and video festivals such as MOCA’s Optical Nerve in North Miami, Missouri’s TRUE/FALSE Film Festival, and international festivals such as CineSul in Brazil, and Against the Silence in Mexico.



For ART ON DISPLAY#2 Gonzalo Escobar will present the project "Toilet" in the display of Villeroy & Boch store located in Mihail Kogălniceanu bd. 35.
